Regulations

On 27th February 2005 RD 208/2005 came into force, in reference to electrical and electronic equipment and its waste management, which incorporates the following to national law:

Directives:

  • Directive 2003/96/CE of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 27th January 2003, in reference to electrical and electronic equipment residues.
  • Directive 2002/95/CE of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 27th January 2003, in reference to restrictions on using specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

This legislation establishes a series of standards for product manufacturing and others related to their proper environmental management when they become waste.
RD 208/2005 requires producers of electrical and electronic equipment to adopt the necessary measures to ensure that the residues of these appliances, placed on the market by them, are selectively collected and have adequate environmental management.

These obligations may be fulfilled individually or through one or more Integrated Management Systems (IMS).
As of 13th August 2005, all producers of electrical and electronic equipment are required to fulfil their main obligations (waste management and marking equipment).
