Environmental awareness in schools

Public awareness is essential to enable the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) since at the end of their useful life WEEE cannot be properly disposed of through the municipal waste system and therefore must be removed through alternative authorised channels:

- Collection points / recycling centres.
- Payment to the seller for the purchase of a new product.
- Collection by the City Hall municipal collection system for bulky items.

Therefore the Ecovitrum project has designed an environmental awareness campaign, aimed at the school community, to help achieve an improvement in the recycling of WEEE. The campaign has two objectives: firstly to raise awareness and inform future users of electronic equipment and secondly to raise awareness to the older user generation.

The aim of this campaign is generate awareness of this type of waste, which is not well known but has a significant environmental impact on society. This is further exacerbated by the rapid turnover of equipment and the obvious increase in electronic waste generated in our homes.

Once the problem is explained for this type of waste, the school community will become more aware of the importance of recycling and know about the different tools available for the recycling of these elements into new products, thus minimising their environmental impact.
